Founded in 1999, Global Trading Group, Inc. is a member of the Securities Investors Protection Corporation (SIPC).  Every client account is protected up to $25 million dollars. Each account is protected by SIPC for up to $500,000 ($100,000 limitation for cash claims 400,000 in securities). An additional $24.5 million in protection is provided by an excess insurance policy.

Global Trading Group, Inc contracts for clearing service with First Southwest Company (FSW), a clearing firm founded in 1946.  On December 31, 2008, First Southwest Holdings LLC, the parent of First Southwest Company merged with PlainsCapital Corporation in a stock-for-stock transaction at book value. First Southwest became a wholly owned subsidiary of PlainsCapital Bank, which is owned by PlainsCapital.
First Southwest is one of the largest privately held investment banks in the USA and, as of February 2009, had more than $62 million of equity and more than $39 million in excess net capital. PlainsCapital is an independent, privately held financial services company with equity of approximately $495 million and assets in excess of $3.8 billion as of December 31, 2008. In addition to First Southwest, PlainsCapital is the parent to PrimeLending and is the majority shareholder of Hester Capital Management.
FSW   has a selling agreement with well over 1500 mutual funds all registered with the regulatory authorities in the USA
